Choosing
a Paper Topic
Consider
the following "idea starters" for choosing a paper topic:
-
I think
it is wrong when. . . .
-
I wish
I could persuade (someone) that. . . .
-
I am definitely
opposed to. . . .
-
(Someone)
argues. . . .; however, I contend that . . .
-
I wish
this university would solve the problem of. . . .
-
I think
we should pass a law so that. . . .
When struggling
to define a paper topic, think about the kinds of subjects you like to
talk about outside of class with friends, co-workers, parents and family,
etc.
Carefully
define the parameters of your paper
Make
it manageable
Develop
focus early in the development process
Is
this a relevant topic?
Read
through the newspaper and note the stories that particularly interest you.
Think
about why they interest you:
Is this an issue that you would like to know more about?
Is it a story that you've been following in the news?
Is this a subject about which you have a particular expertise?
