    - founded in 1958, with the aim of bringing into being throughout Nigeria 
      a federation of nonpolitical women's organizations and assisting women in 
      towns and villages in their important roles as homemakers and nation 
      builders, the Council seeks to create among its members an awareness of 
      good citizenship.

    - nonprofit making organization, nonpolitical council.

    - funded by state branches and member organizations, fund raising, and 
      grants from philanthropists.

    - Functions:
    provides a platform for formulating women's opinions and ideas
    and dissemination of such opinions and ideas; deals with requests and
    petitions from member organizations for social reform or other requests by
    making representation to the government or other appropriate bodies; sends
    delegates and/or representatives to and receives delegates and/or
    representatives from national and international organizations, meetings,
    and conferences; publishes a newsletter and any other publications the
    Council may think necessary; holds a biennial convention at which all
    member organization are represented.
